David Makman

David Makman specializes in commercial and intellectual property litigation. He has experience in high stakes patent infringement litigations involving electronics, semiconductor manufacturing, software, and other technologies.  He also has intellectual property consulting experience with copyright, trademark, trade secret and Internet law.  He has litigated in

state and federal court throughout California and in federal court or arbitration throughout the country, including Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York, Delaware and Washington DC. 

Mr. Makman is a member of the California Bar.  He graduated from Duke University School of Law in 1995 with a JD and an LLM in International and Comparative Law.  He has numerous articles and has spoken at many universities including Stanford, Hastings, Berkeley in California as well as Doshisha University Law School, Keio Law School, Osaka University and Chuo Law School in Japan.   

Mr. Makman is bilingual; he reads and speaks Japanese. He is the former Chairman of the Board of the Japan Society of Northern California. 

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Makman worked for several years for Matrix Kabushiki Kaisha in Tokyo marketing U.S. software products to Japanese companies. 

In that job, his work involved marketing AI, CAD CASE and object oriented software.

Mr. Makman went to Oberlin College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with an A.B. in East Asian Studies and a minor in Computer Science in 1987.
