Brian M. Baker practices in various aspects of intellectual property law and utilizes his expertise to engage with and guide clients from individual inventors and small, family-owned businesses to large and elite, corporate clients in their varying intellectual property needs. This includes engaging with clients for white space brainstorming, patent portfolio strategy sessions, and ongoing R&D project technical assessments, as well as preparing freedom to operate and other due diligence opinions, conducting strategic litigation preparation, drafting motions in connection with IP-centric district court cases, and conducting and overseeing patent drafting and subsequent patent prosecution in connection with all manner of technologies. Clients look to Brian for merging his legal expertise with his past experiences in engineering and R&D departments guiding company leaders in relation to new product development, manufacturing, and critical quality solutions.

Brian has significant intellectual property experience spanning technology areas including software, electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, biomedical, and chemical/biotech arts. Brian has particular experience with inventions related to quantum computing, neural networks and reinforcement learning agents, natural language and image analysis techniques, cloud computing environments, augmented reasoning systems, data security systems, application programming interfaces, server interfaces, encryption techniques, data compliance systems, 5G architecture, logic circuitry, RFID technologies, and autonomous vehicle driving systems. Within these technology areas, Brian has extensive experience with advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Brian also has particular experience with technologies related to imaging and radar systems, lights and electronic lighting devices, multi-function printers, video streaming software and hardware, fluid sensors and systems, magnetic systems, semiconductors, and chemical and biological diagnostic technologies including mass spectroscopy, chromatography, electron microscopy, spectroscopy, element analysis, and cell culturing. Further experience includes that with inventions related to hydraulic, pneumatic, piezoelectric and electromagnetic pumps, motors, manifolds, valving systems and braking systems, fluid containment and delivery systems, hand-held and man-driven outdoor power and recreational equipment and vehicles, autonomous landscape management machines, refrigeration and ice making systems, major electric and gas-powered cooking appliances and associated cooking algorithms, commercial air conditioners, PET scanners, LIDAR, aircraft landing and airport management algorithms, aerospace vehicles and systems, weaponized and non-weaponized projectiles, drone systems, environmental fluid barriers, packaging materials and packaging material manufacturing machines, consumer and personal care products, surgical methods using novel surgical devices, operating room equipment, personal protective equipment, and cardiology, oncology, and orthopedic surgical devices.

Prior to practicing law, Brian worked for numerous years as a biomedical engineer in new product development, R&D, sustaining engineering, and manufacturing in both Fortune 500 companies and privately-owned engineering firms in areas of oral care, gastroenterology products, topical anesthetic refrigerants, and medical and pharmaceutical packaging. He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Akron College of Engineering magna cum laude and was an Honors Scholar. Brian graduated from the University of Akron School of Law, having participated for three years on the Akron Law Review and Intellectual Property Journal and was a recipient of multiple Ernest Karam and CALI Excellence Awards for legal analysis, research, and writing. He was admitted to the U.S. Patent Bar in 2009 and to the State Bar of Ohio in 2013, and he is listed in the Super Lawyers magazine.
